Frequently Asked Questions

Boarding FAQs

Q1. Can I visit the kennels?

Yes, absolutely! We have an open door policy at the kennels and you can visit anytime for a tour - although there may be a short wait whilst we finish up any routines with our boarders. If you'd like to bring your dog(s) along too we do ask that you make an appointment for a meet and greet so we can book a free slot on the arena and actually spend some time with you and your dog(s) getting to know you. You can make an appointment via email admin@salthousepetboarding.co.uk or by calling us on 07496818413.

Q2. Do you provide Day Care?

Yes, we do! Day Care runs alongside our overnight boarding so dogs get the exact same level of care and 1:1 attention whilst they are with us. We don't currently have a social day care - where dogs are all mixed together in the same space , although we can and do socialise dogs who are proven to be sociable where possible.

Q3. What vaccinations does my dog need?

All dogs must have up to date standard vaccinations, including kennel cough (infectious tracheobronchitis). These must have been administered at least 2 weeks prior to boarding. An up to date vaccination certificate must accompany your dog on arrival. No dogs will be accepted without an up to date vaccination certificate.

Q4. Do you accept titre testing?

While we prefer vaccinations, we do accept a titre test with a valid date and an authorised vet’s signature. Additionally, we need to see proof of the other vaccinations your dog has as mentioned earlier.

Q5. Do you charge per day?

Just like a hotel we charge PER NIGHT. For example if you needed to board your dog Monday-Sunday you'll need to book 6 nights, not 7 days.

Q6.How much exercise will my dog get whilst boarding?

As a general rule all dogs get 3 periods of off lead exercise in our secure freedom parks every day. This is subject to change due to weather conditions and also your dogs needs. We also have playtime in our outdoor pens as well as lead walks around the grounds and also kennel playtime inside.

Q7.What’s a typical day like at the Salthouse Pet Boarding?

Our routines vary depending on various factors such as the weather, type and size of dogs we have boarding etc but this is how a typical day looks.
7-8am: Toilet breaks, kennel refresh and breakfast
8-10am: Morning Walks
10-11.30am: Play Time/Kennel Play
12 noon: Lunch / treats / chews / kongs
12.30-2.30pm: Lunchtime Walks
2-30-4.30pm: Play Time/Kennel Play
4.30pm: Dinner
5.30-7.30pm: Evening walks

Q8.Will my dog be mixed with other dogs?

Not unless you have given us permission to do so and we are absolutely confident in both dogs social skills. As a rule every dog receives 1:1 care for all exercise and play time however if we are able and have permission we may socialise dogs together. Dogs will always have an on-lead assessment with each other before being allowed to run free.

Q9. My dog is not very social. Does it mean that it will be on lead while the other dogs play around?

Even if your dog is not sociable, they will still get the same amount of time off- lead to play by themselves.

Q10. Can you administer my dog’s medication?

Yes, whilst we are not Vets we can administer any medication that has been prescribed by a vet.
All medication should be brought in its original packaging with the prescription label intact to indicate the dosage to be administered and how and when it needs to be administered. A vet’s prescription is a must. All medications must be listed on your dogs Revelation Pets Profile.

Q11. Are you open on Sundays and holidays?

Yes we are open 365 days a year, however, we don't allow check ins or check outs on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day so if you'd like to board your dog over these dates they'd need to be checked in the day before and checked out the day after.

Q12.What time is drop off / collection?

Day Care Drop off is 7.30-8am and collection is 6-6.30pm.

Check In for boarding is 2.30pm-4.30pm 7 days a week

Check Out for boarding is 10.30am-12.30pm 7 days a week

We do offer Early Check Ins and Late Check Outs dependant on availability and these are subject to a £15 additional charge - PER KENNEL not PER DOG.

Q13.What do I need to bring with me?

Three things are essential:
1. Your dog’s updated vaccination card.
2. Food for the period along with directions about the quantity to be given.
3. Your dog’s medication.
You can also bring any beds, blankets, toys etc you think your dog would like to have with them. We do have raised beds in every kennel as well as food and water bowls.

Q14. Do I need to pay a deposit when booking?

All bookings must be secured with a 50% deposit within 48 hours of booking. The balance is due two weeks prior to their stay.

Q15. What is the refund policy if my plans change?

Deposits are non refundable however we completely understand that plans change and life happens. All bookings cancelled more than 4 weeks before the first day of your stay will be credited to your account in full minus a £20 admin fee. This credit can be used against future bookings. Cancellations within 2-4 weeks of the first day of your stay will not be refunded. Cancellations less than 2 weeks from the first day of your stay will not be refunded and full payment will be due.

Q16. How does your team keep track of all the animals, all the time?

Paperwork on each pet and notes recorded on the Revelation Pets software help our team track what’s happening, even when there is a change of guard.  Besides, our team’s favourite hangout is in and around the kennels.

Q17.What happens if my dog needs medical attention?

While the Salthouse Pet Boarding has a vet on call (located less than a mile away) the protocol is to first contact you and your emergency contact, and of course the vet your pooch is familiar with. Expenses incurred during their boarding is YOUR responsibility.

Freedom Park FAQs

Q1. Is my booking just for me or will there be other dogs and owners?

All bookings on the freedom parks are exclusive to you. You can meet with friends and family etc but you won't have to share with any unknown dogs.

Q2. How many dogs can I bring with me?

Your booking covers up to 4 dogs. Each additional dog is charged at £2 per hour and can be paid in reception on the day.

Q3. Can I bring my children too?

Yes absolutely!

Q4. Is there any equipment and or toys on the freedom parks?

There is some agility style equipment on the Outdoor Freedom Field, on the Indoor Freedom Arena there is a basket of toys which you are free to use. As with anything we just ask that you leave everything as you find it for others to enjoy.

Q5. Where do I park?

We have a car park immediately as you turn into Salthouse Pet Boarding. You can park here and then walk along the gravel path up to the Outdoor Field which is on your left or continue across the yard to the Indoor Arena on your right. We do make exceptions for those with mobility issues or reactive/nervous dogs and you can park on the yard if needed, all we ask is please drive very slowly as we do use the grounds to walk our boarding dogs as well as customers walking to and from the parks using the gravel path.

Q6.Do I need to check in when I arrive?

There is no need to check in when you arrive unless you have a balance to pay. Please try not to arrive any earlier than 5 minutes before your slot to avoid any dog arguments as you arrive and the previous users leave. Please ensure all dogs are kept on their leads until inside the secure arenas.

Q7. Do I need to clean up after my dog?

Yes please! We do have poop bags hanging around both the field and arena, and also a clean up spray on the arena. We would also be grateful if any uneaten treats or food could be binned where possible to avoid any reactions with other dogs but also so as not to attract rodents.

Q8. Are there any toilet facilities?

Yes there are toilets available in the reception building,

Q9. Can I hire the freedom parks for doggy parties, breed meets, or training classes?

Yes you can! Drop us a message via our Facebook Page, via text, or email to book your event.

Q10. What is the refund policy if my plans change?

We completely understand that plans change and life happens. We don't offer refunds on our freedom parks but we can rearrange bookings and book you another slot free of charge within 30 days.

Laura Jayne

"Would definitely recommend Salthouse, the team took great care of our cocker spaniel Teddy when we went away for a few days. Despite feeling nervous at the prospect of leaving him, we were instantly reassured and kept up to date throughout the day as we could see how happy and well looked after he was! Thank you so much to the team"
